How to take good care of your new tattoo
After the tattoo is completed, tattoo artist will bandage the tattoo for you. Once when you back home, take the bandage off carefully and slowly, wash it with cool/lukewarm water (too hot will cause irritation to your skin, it can also fade the ink), and clean it by using mild liquid soap/non-perfumed soap). Pat it dry gently with a paper towel and let it dry for about 5-10 minutes. Remember, never scrub the tattoo with a towel or sponge. Then you should apply a thin layer of unscented moisturising cream or plain, unscented skin lotion such as Cetaphil, Aveeno, Curel, Eucerin, Lubriderm etc.
When all the scabs fall off and the skin feels smooth again, the tattoo is healed. Sometimes you may notice a secondary shiny, raised or waxy coat over the tattoo, this is just another healing layer of the skin. Remember to keep moisturising your new tattoo continuously.
Always put sunscreen on your healed tattoo, especially coloured ones. Make sure it's covered with SPF 45 or higher. Wear SPF clothing can also help.
